The Computer Science department of the University of Twente is expanding and seeks a new colleague to strengthen its cybersecurity research.
The position:
Our society increasingly depends on the digital world, making cybersecurity critical for ensuring the safety and resilience of IT systems and services.
In this area, the Semantics, Cybersecurity and Services (SCS) group of the University of Twente is looking for an Assistant Professor to join the cybersecurity team. The SCS group conducts internationally recognized research in three main areas: Systems Security, Data Security, and AI Security (including both the security of AI systems and AI-driven security techniques).
We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious researcher to develop an independent research line in Software Security, with topics including (but not limited to) fuzzing, symbolic execution, binary analysis, and reverse engineering. The successful candidate is passionate about cutting-edge cybersecurity research, has a strong publication record —including publications at leading security venues such as USENIX Security, NDSS, IEEE S&P, and ACM CCS— and is eager to contribute to a vibrant academic environment that values collaboration, creativity, and excellence.
Your responsibilities:
Conduct high-impact research and lead innovative research initiatives;
Secure external research funding and contribute to grant proposals;
Supervise PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers;
Contribute to the development and coordination of our educational programs by teaching 2–3 courses aligned with your expertise;
Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects.
Your profile
You have a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related discipline;
You have demonstrated the ability to perform top-notch research in the area of software security or systems security;
You have a strong interest and have shown the ability to collaborate in an academic, multidisciplinary environment;
You have shown experience in acquiring external funding or are prepared to expand your skills in this respect;
You have good communication skills and are a team player;
You are fluent in English;
You have a University Teaching Qualification (Dutch: BKO) or equivalent or you are willing to acquire one within three years.
Our offer
We offer a position with an initial contract of one year. After a positive evaluation, the contract can be converted into a permanent contract.

Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU);
The position is at Assistant Professor level, with a monthly salary ranging from € 4.728,– (scale 11) to € 7297,– (scale 12) gross depending on qualifications;
Excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a solid pension scheme;
The flexibility to work (partially) from home;
Free access to sports facilities on campus
A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
