Associate Professor in Robotic Control and Manipulation

Salary

Base pay range: €6,461 – €8,020 (scale 13), full‑time. 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% year‑end bonus, temporary contract with possibility of extension, generous leave policy (≈53.5 days per year for 40‑hour week).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Control and Manipulation specialisation research line within the SMART Mechatronics and Robotics group.
  • Guide development of group competencies and ensure financial soundness of the research line.
  • Establish strong regional, national and international networks; promote research, acquire projects and exploit results in education, research and industry.
  • Collaborate closely with (associate) professors, project managers, team leaders, researchers, and students to create new practical knowledge and build a unified, future‑oriented team.
  • Align with other members of the Smart Mechatronics & Robotics research group and the School of Life Science, Engineering and Design.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree and at least five years of experience in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering; expertise in dynamic modelling, simulation of complex systems, advanced control of industrial manipulators, autonomous unmanned robotic systems and reinforcement learning.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking, with ability to bridge market needs and scientific research, including active involvement in higher professional education.
  • Experience building networks, acquiring R&D projects, mobilising teams, and ensuring effective exploitation of outcomes.
  • Leadership style: inspiring coach, ambitious leader, results‑oriented team player, flexible, open and hospitable colleague.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines and organisational levels.
